Guy Who Is Entirely Independent Of His Parents Can’t Understand Why They Are Mad At Him For Getting A Dog

Getting a dog, or any pet is a significant commitment. It is not a device that can be turned off and placed on a shelf when you are bored.  Pets are alive, living creatures who demand regular attention. And we’re not simply talking about feeding them and providing them with a warm, dry place to sleep. Nope.

Having a pet means a lot more, especially if it’s a dog. They, in particular, require quality time with you. And certain breeds require your company more than others (velcro breeds). You are ready to get a dog if you are willing to bring it up with the same effort as you would put into bringing up a human child.

Before you head out and get your pet, you need to honestly analyze if you are capable of providing them with the care and attention they will require. This covers basic essentials like food, water, toys, and shelter, as well as grooming, training, strolling, and playing with them to keep them active.

OP is a student who lives in a flat with his partner. He does, however, have good-paying part-time work and does not rely on his parents.

 

When he told his parents he had gotten a dog, they were upset. His brother joined them in their criticism of his decision.

What do parents have to do with OP’s decision to get a dog? He is a completely independent person and his dog doesn’t require any involvement on their part. Neither will they have to face any consequences because of it. He will arrange funds for the dog without their help. He will keep it at his own place, away from his parents. So, logistically speaking, parents have no right of involvement in this regard

He works and goes to college and is clearly a very responsible person. His current situation clearly depicts that he can totally afford a dog atm. But it seems like they are used to criticizing him, and they just jump at any opportunity.
