Having a baby in your forties while working full-time can be a challenging thing.
Kids are a huge responsibility. You cannot work full-time with a baby because it gets hard to manage work and personal life. People who work full-time usually hire babysitters for their kids so they do not get exhausted. A Reddit user shared with the Reddit community that he is 21 and works as an electrician apprentice. His parents are both 46 and they have a 9 months-old son. They both work full-time jobs and want OP to watch his little brother. OP has refused many times.
OP’s parents called him again to watch his little brother on weekend but OP told them that he is not his responsibility and they can have as many kids as they want but he has no interest in having a sibling relationship with someone young enough to be his son. OP’s parents didn’t call him again after this. Scroll down to read the complete story.
OP asks the Reddit community if he is TAH for telling his parents that he would never watch his little brother:
OP works as an electrician apprentice and shares an apartment with two roommates. OP also has a 9 month old brother. OP’s parents work full-time and have been asking OP to watch his little brother every week.
OP hates taking care of kids and he has no interest in having a sibling relationship with someone so young.
OP’s parents asked again to watch his little brother but he told them that he is their responsibility and they should stop calling him.
OP has offered the following explanation for why he can be TAH:
OP’s parents should have known that having a kid is a big responsibility.
Helping your parents and being kind to them does not cost a lot. If OP has a good relationship with his parents, he should understand his parents’ situation as well and should help them occasionally. OP refused to help them straightforwardly, OP should not be surprised if his parents refuse to help him in the future. Well, OP’s parents should hire a babysitter if OP is not willing to help his parents out.
Adults should not be forced to do anything for their relatives.
OP’s parents should do the same to him when he wants help with his kids and when he will come back home exhausted from work:
OP’s parents will also be NTA if OP loses his job in the future or needs a space to stay and his parents say no.
OP’s parents should hire a babysitter:
OP should occasionally help his parents out because it is a kind thing to do.
Family always helps the family.
