Woman Is Pissed For Being Forced To Buy Christmas Gifts For Her Husband’s Whole Family

Christmas is not about presents.

I mean I may not be the perfect person to write about this since I have never actually celebrated Christmas but I have seen enough Christmas movies to say that Christmas is supposed to be about family and such. However, even if we say that most people use it as an excuse to demand expensive gifts from their relatives. It’s like they think they deserve these gifts rather than being happy with whatever they get.

I understand that getting a gift is a very fun and exciting experience (even though I’ve only gotten gifts once or twice in my life) it does not excuse anyone acting in such a dismissive way towards others. Just by reading the title, I can safely say she is not the a**hole in this story.

Seems like a reasonable thing to do.

I can understand that being the youngest in my family as well.

Actually, that is much more economical than buying gifts for every family member.

Essentially telling someone how much they should spend is incredibly weird but maybe that is just me.

But just because they want to do it doesn’t mean everyone else has to as well.

Don’t the family members see how this may be affecting them?

She is 100% not in the wrong here. I wouldn’t want to do that either no matter how much I loved my in-laws.

NTA. Did we marry into the same family? I’ve been trying to argue the point that we shouldn’t buy presents for siblings and set a max $30 limit on each kid with it only being one gift per kid, but apparently, that’s “insane and cruel and stealing Christmas cheer for children.”

I don’t buy gifts for my siblings, but apparently, it’s like starting WW3 if we don’t buy his siblings and inlaws gifts. Plus, and this could just be me being petty and overdramatic per usual, the gifts they get us in return are shit.

We’ve gotten Jenga 3 times in 5 years, and last year his sister “made” me a shirt (she’s 31) that was honestly, just a hot mess and about 4 sizes too large for me but she had to throw in the old “well I assumed it would fit you!” jab. Like really Mary? Don’t start. –runalongcaitlin

It might be better to just come clean and tell them.

Or they might just expect more and more from her in the future.

That is just straight-up crazy.

NTA. Holy cow I got anxious from reading that. $30 per gift for the kids alone is $270 dollars. I’m in college making $10 an hour so that’s about two paychecks for me, that’s a huge amount of money that not everyone has. If your husband insists on getting that many gifts the price per person needs to be lower.

This isn’t an advice sub but is there a way you can get a gift for the siblings to share? for example when we were little we had a Wii so some family members who were short on cash would get us a game for me and my siblings to share. –soulsearxhing

That is perhaps better than having to get individual gifts.
